Build with what we already have: discover underutilised wood at the WoodStock-TIMBERHAUS booth

Join Horizon Europe sister projects WoodStock and TIMBERHAUS in Brussels to explore how local, underutilised wood can become a climate-smart solution for building sustainable, inclusive communities across Europe.

From 9 to 13 June 2026, the third edition of the New European Bauhaus Festival 2026 will transform Brussels, Belgium into a vibrant meeting place for ideas, people, and projects shaping the future of our built environment.

  • Interactive workshop: Designing with underutilised wood: NEB values in practice, 9 – 13 June 2026 | location TBC | time TBC
  • Panel session ‘Investing in what truly matters: scaling up the NEB market for competitive solutions in the built environment’, 11 June 2026 | 14.00 – 18.00 (TBC) | Forum
  • Session ‘NEB Academy: How the NEB learns, tests, and scales’, 12 June 2026 | 11:45 – 12:35 | Forum

This year’s Festival explores the transformative power of participation, how citizens, architects, constructors, and policymakers can actively shape more inclusive, sustainable, and affordable environments.

Build with underutilised wood: discover the possibilities

At the heart of the Festival, inside the Art & History Museum in the Parc du Cinquantenaire, WoodStock joins forces with Horizon Europe sister project TIMBERHAUS.

Discover how underutilised wood can be turned into a climate-smart building solution — and help shape how we build with it across Europe.

At the joint booth in the NEB Fair - a living laboratory of ideas and prototypes - you can:

  • explore the European Wood Construction Observatory (EWCO)
  • discover design guidelines for building with underutilised wood
  • engage in conversations on local, climate-smart construction approaches
  • share your perspective and contribute to a collective vision for building with wood

Join the conversation at our booth

WoodStock and TIMBERHAUS are at the Festival to exchange, question, and co-create.

Join us in exploring questions like what could building with underutilised wood look like in your local context or how can local wood resources shape more meaningful, context-specific architecture?

Add your voice, your experience, and your ideas — and help shape a shared European perspective.

Co-create the future with us in a workshop

Interactive workshop: Designing with underutilised wood: NEB values in practice
9 – 13 June 2026 | location TBC | time TBC

Step into a hands-on design session where you will work in small groups to create your own building concept using underutilised wood. Guided by the New European Bauhaus values - beautiful, sustainable, and inclusive – you will explore how these ambitions can actively shape design decisions from the very beginning.

Using  design prompts, and a collaborative canvas, you will experiment, sketch, and discuss how to integrate wood resources into meaningful architectural solutions — while navigating the trade-offs that come with balancing multiple NEB values.

What to expect?

  • A creative, low-threshold format - no design expertise required
  • Concrete tools and methods you can apply in your own work
  • Inspiration and exchange with others working at the intersection of sustainability, design, and community participation
  • The opportunity to contribute your ideas to a growing collective vision, showcased at the WoodStock-Timberhaus booth

This is your chance to actively shape how we build with underutilised wood in Europe in line with NEB.

Panel session: Scaling up the NEB market

What does it take to move from inspiring projects to a real, scalable market for sustainable building solutions?

Session: NEB Academy

How can knowledge, skills, and innovation for the sustainable transformation in the built environment be developed and shared across Europe?

Session ‘NEB Academy: How the NEB learns, tests, and scales’

12 June 2026 | 11:45 – 12:35 | Forum

Andreja Kutnar, WoodStock project partner and coordinator of the New European Bauhaus Academy Alliance, NEB Academy, will highlight the role of the NEB Academy on how to channel research into skills, skills into experimentation, and experimentation into scalable innovation. Through the NEB Academy, WoodStock’s future training materials on underutilised wood will be available to a wider audience.

Why this matters

While the need for sustainable, affordable, and locally grounded construction continues to grow, significant wood resources remain underutilised across Europe. Jan van den Bulcke, project coordinator WoodStock from UGent underlines: “WoodStock demonstrates how underutilised wood resources can become a credible, climate-smart solution for Europe’s built environment, by connecting knowledge, design practices, and local value chains across regions.”
